With a population of over 201,000 in the local area,
the Tricities communities of the City
of Coquitlam,
City of Port Coquitlam and City
of Port Moody have been vastly developed. This growth
is expected to continue through this decade and beyond.
Easy access, together with business services, professional
services and excellent shopping facilities have all
contributed to the region's popularity.
These three communities are an interdependent group with strong alliances and are an extensive suburban section of the Greater Vancouver Regional District. The Tri-Cities area is one of the fastest growing districts in Canada, making it a prime place for investment and business success.
The region has experienced dramatic growth in population
since the 1960s. The latest population figures for the
Tri-Cities area are: (2006 G.V.R.D./ B.C. Stats estimates)
- Coquitlam - 125,500
- Port Coquitlam - 52,094
- Port Moody - 24,162
The Greater Vancouver Regional District (GVRD) estimates that the population of the local region will increase to over 250,000 in the next 25 years. There is an extensive land supply available to accommodate this growth including Westwood Plateau and Burke Mountain in Coquitlam; the northern areas and Heritage Mountain in Port Moody; as well as the Riverwood area in Port Coquitlam.
